In the context of IARC, Dr. Gary Clifford has chiefly been involved in studies on infectious diseases and cancer, most notably human papillomavirus and cervical cancer, and HIV and hepatitis C virus and lymphomas. Dr Clifford’s original research work and pooled analyses of data on cervical lesions and human papillomavirus have become the reference point for many researchers investigating this topic world-wide, as well as a useful background tool for the implementation of HPV vaccines in certain parts of the globe. Dr Clifford is the author or co-author of over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
